The Black Forest

A low mountain range of particular beauty stretches across southern Germany: the Black Forest. This region, well-loved by the tourists is moulded from the last ice age: high plateaus mix with deep valleys and clear lakes formed by former glaciers offer perfect bathing opportunities.

As well as various wintersport activities, there are ample hiking tracks and mountain bike routes in undisturbed nature available to enjoy in Spring, Summer and Autumn. Black Forest traditions, such as the horse carriages or the cattle festivals and celebrations in Autumn, combine with a range of modern leisure activities for the whole family, from watersport activities to fun parks.

The Black Forest is well-known especially for its traditionally decorated costumes, the cuckoo clock, Black Forest gateau and the hearty dishes. But there is much more to discover in this historical region: its location in the Germany-France-Switzerland triangle has been witness to culturally important and changing history, and occupied by both Romans and Celts. Today it is still possible to retrace the past or enjoy the culture, such as museums, theatres and festivals, which offer something for all interests.
