The Black Forest cuckoo clockcuckoo clock

Cuckoo clock technics

Nowadays the sound of a typical Black Forest cuckoo clock is famous worldwide. But how was this incomparable cuckoo call created?

Two pipes are built into every cuckoo clock, over which a small bellow is attached. A small cog lifts the bellow and fills it with air. When the bellows then shortly after each other snap together through their own weight, the air flows out through the pipes, resulting in the sound, similar to a cuckoo's call.

There were many attempts to copy complicated animal calls, but only the cuckoo call proved a permanent success.
